Reduce the noise caused by the tapping of rain and hail on and against roller shutter boxes and window sills.

How to insulate a roller shutter box and window sills
The housing, also called a roller shutter box, in which a roller shutter is rolled up, is commonly not soundproof, losing the roller shutter causes noise nuisance inside your house and far more annoying is rain drops and hail ticking on the box. This noise problem is to solve!

In general, a roller shutter box is made of fairly thin sheet metal or aluminium. The position of the roller shutter box is often just outside the facade, resulting in a (loud) ticking noise when it rains or hails, which is transmitted by the roller shutter box. This can especially be noticed when the roller shutter is being closed. The housing or box functions like a sound box. Also noise from outside enters through the roller shutter box. The result is quite a big sound leak. The solution to this noise problem is relatively simple.

Insulating the roller shutter box

In case of insulating roller shutter box made of steel or aluminium, we recommend you to mount anti-drumming sheets on the inside of the cabinet. You can use the Vibraflex Normal, self-adhesive anti-drumming sheets, for this purpose. This product reduces the gong effect in the sheet material. The sheets isolate the material of the roller box so that vibrations cannot travel through the material of the box, resulting in small dull taps instead of long gong sounds. You can count on a reduction by at least 80%.

Before mounting, make sure that the surface is dry and extremely clean! Do not touch the self-adhesive layer. Then cover about 60 to 70% of the inside of the box. The optimal condition to install the Vibraflex Normal sheets is when the product is just above room temperature. This way the product is supple and the self-adhesive side more responsive. It is most important to prevent air bubbles getting trapped under the Vibraflex sheets! This to ensure the products' optimal functioning and holding. Use our Pressure Roller to apply the sheets.

Sound insulation for metal windowsills
A windowsill made of aluminium or steel constitutes the same problem as a roller shutter box, thin and light sheet material functions as a gong during hail or rain. In this case the solution is simple as well! Disassemble the windowsill and clean it thoroughly. Again, cover its surface for about 60 to 70% with Vibraflex Normal to achieve optimal results.
