Soundproofing for pipes, sewer pipe, vent pipe or rain drainage pipe

Soundproofing for pipes, sewer- and vent pipe
Pipes made of PVC, PP and PE are relatively lightweight and can therefore easily radiate noise . This can cause noise nuisance in a building. In general, this problem is called airborne noise, but impact noise can also be an issue. A pipe or tube is usually rigidly mounted with brackets that can transmit resonances to the building structure.

How to soundproof a pipe
The solution to this noise problem is to wrap the pipe with pipe insulation. To soundproof a sewer pipe for example you can use Merfowrap, an easy to use insulation product that is wrapped around any pipe or tube and taped up, done! We have also provided a pipe wrap insulation with an aluminium top layer that also provide adds a thermal insulation to your pipe soundproofing.

Merfowrap Leaded is a dark grey pipe insulation with a layer of lead. This provides more ease while applying the product.
These pipe insulation materials soundproof medium and high-frequency noises, such as that of falling water, matter from transport pipes, sewer drains. To soundproofing and insulate air ducts you can use Merfowrap Aluminium. Don't forget to seal seems with Alu Finishing Tape.

Applying pipe insulation wrap
Detach the pipe from the mounting bracket and wrap the Merfowrap pipe insulation around the pipe, preferably twice for the best result. Make sure the pipe is not too heavy to be detached from its brackets! When the pipe is wrapped, seal the seems with the Insulation Tape for Merfowrap, and Alu Tape for the Merfowrap Aluminated (Merfisol). Place the bracket back over the insulation material. This way the pipe is decoupled from the building and insulated, or soundproofed. This will reduce airborne noise and impact noise. Make sure that the pipe or tube stays in place and is not to heavy for this method. Otherwise wrap the pipe insulation around the pipe and include the mounting brackets.
